Celtic capped what manager Brendan Rodgers described as one of the most “exceptional years” in the club’s history with a dominant 4-0 win over St Johnstone, extending their domestic unbeaten streak this season.
Nicolas Kuhn opened the scoring after an impressive setup by Reo Hatate, with Kuhn’s clinical form continuing to shine. Kyogo added a brace, the first a header from a well-worked corner and the second a precise finish from an Arne Engels cross, marking Celtic’s 50th league goal in just 18 matches.
Substitute Daizen Maeda sealed the rout with a late strike following Paulo Bernardo’s incisive through ball. The win widens Celtic’s lead over Rangers to 14 points ahead of their trip to Ibrox on Thursday.
While St Johnstone showed brief resilience, they ultimately succumbed to relentless pressure from the league leaders.
The visitors, now without a win in five matches, remain rooted at the bottom of the table. Rodgers praised his players’ mindset and work ethic, noting the team’s willingness to take risks as a hallmark of their success.
With Celtic in commanding form and maintaining a staggering pace in the Scottish Premiership, Rodgers declared 2023 as a year for the history books, much to the delight of their supporters.
